Tony Iommi would definitely consider himself part of Ronnie James Dio’s inner circle. He worked with Dio in Black Sabbath, as well as its latest incarnation, Heaven and Hell. If anyone was going to be deeply affected by Dio’s death, Iommi would be.
Like so many admirers of the metal music icon, Iommi expressed his sadness in a statement online:
“I’ve been in total shock. I just can’t believe he’s gone. Ronnie was one of the nicest people you could ever meet, we had some fantastic times together. Ronnie loved what he did, making music and performing on stage. He loved his fans so much. He was a kind man and would put himself out to help others. I can honestly say it’s truly been an honor to play at his side for all these years. His music will live on forever. Our thoughts are with Wendy Dio who stood by Ronnie until the end. He loved her very much. The man with the magic voice is a star amongst stars, a true professional. I’ll miss you so much my dear friend. RIP.”

On Sunday, May 16, 2010, Ronnie James Dio peacefully passed away. Last summer Dio announced that he had been battling stomach cancer.
Heaven and Hell was set to tour this summer but things were put on hold earlier this month. Ronnie had just completed his seventh chemotherapy treatment and was optimistic about returning to the stage. The future of the tour, and the band, is still uncertain. (Read More…)

Heaven & Hell continue to exist, much to the surprise (but not dismay) of the band’s members.
When they got together to tour in 2007, they didn’t expect to create any new music. But the Black Sabbath members did just that by creating “The Devil You Know” in 2009.
Continuing with their success, they have plans to tour Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, Finland and Austria with their new jams starting in June.

When some members from Black Sabbath got together two years ago as Heaven and Hell, they weren’t planning on recording any new material, just touring for their fans.
Somehow, everything seemed to jive with the band – Geezer Butler, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi and Vinnie Appice, sans Ozzy Osbourne – and they decided to head to the studio.
The result is “The Devil You Know,” which they are now showcasing on their summer tour.
